An
idea that I never really developed very far. This was my variant
on the overhead hitters (leverbots). AI detects the height of
the enemy and hits the uppermost point (in theory). The saws
didn't really do enough damage for this to be an effective Tourney
bot. (19 August 2001) |

Another early attempt to do something different. Meant to be
very strong defensively and with no exposed parts on attack.
Unfortunately the shield has a tendency to get knocked into
the air allowing bots to get in and step on its toes.
(Named after New Zealand national Rugby trophy, my ambition
was to catch the RoboForge Tournament Co-ordinators eye and
earn me a feature and my name in lights, did not work!) (19 August 2001)

Winner of the third Ranked Amateur.
A bot designed to have a hard hitting attack, which also provides
good defense due to the angle the arm swings at. Early versions
kept getting their main arm knocked off hence the heavy shielding.
Worked very well against large robots.
This robot made liberal use of the Maniac 'Avoid' AI. At the
time (I had owned the game for two weeks) I did not understand
how this AI even worked so there was no way I could have written
it myself. I used the Avoid AI only in situations where it seemed
advisable, e.g.: When well ahead of the enemy on health, when
out of power and when time was almost up and I was winning.
In the end it was probably these tactics that won the Tourney.
This is still quite a good test robot, but can be easily beaten
by certain robot types. (19 August 2001) |

My first serious Professional entry, made a SemiFinal. A 40k
version of the successful 30K Bubonic. Carried some of Bubonic's
AI flaws over to this design. Low spinner is quite effective
against wheeled and legged chassis'. The saw on the attack arm
can provide some serious close quarters damage when all else
fails, led me to use this weapon on a few other designs. One
piece of Highly Confidential AI technology has been removed
from this version.
(Named after one of the shades of the underworld in Greek mythology.)

Not a very effective bot, because it has an AI problem that
means the scorpion tail in back will never work, and the other
weapon is just too weak. It uses twenty-five zones to target
its opposition. (18 August 2001)

A lot of people want the secret behind him. He's just a spinner
that uses six omnis, two engines, and two gronds. It still has
power issues; it's rare that two bladsk presser engines can
be insufficient, but....). He often does the maximum damage
with every impact. (18 August 2001) |

This well shielded robot has a surpassingly simple AI. It uses
a spike to slam down on top of the bot, but the weapon is rear-mounted,
making this a scorpion-bot, even though it's not on the Rechtecht
chassis. Many robots are not well shielded from the tip, so
this is a good warrior. Not how one sensor is used to cover
the entire area, set on a rotator like radar. (18 August 2001)

The last of the Thirsty Bird line a moderately successful. Leverbot
from a month ago. It doesn't look like much but won a lot of
fights in its day. (13 August 2001)

Brickbot began as an experiment in defense, but proved itself
useful as a test drone that can take a hit. It has a very basic
AI, and a 360 degree sensor. (13 August 2001) |
