UK team building specialists Sandstone is using RoboForge to stage bouts on a big screen for hundreds of corporate guests at a time. They call it "Robocup". Sandstone's Managing Director Alan Hunt comments: "A Robocup evening is like a 21st century version of a race night.
Instead of betting on old horse races, our guests are given a ringside seat to virtual robotic carnage. Our bots are all from the RoboForge community who have helped us tremendously. It's great fun!" It's early days for them, but their first 2 events went down really well with their first Robocup clients, NHBC (the world's leading warranty and insurance provider for new homes) and none other than IBM.

Given the popularity of TV's
various robot fighting, junkyard construction
shows, it's surprising no one has come up
with a game quite like this before. The purpose
of RoboForge is to design, build and program
a robot to fight against computer generated
opponents or upload it to a special website
where it can battle rival robots created by
RoboForge owners around the world. But this
isn't just any high-tech thump-em-up because
once battle begins, you can't control the
robot. You must design and program every move,
strike and tactic before the fight starts.
There is an array of chassis, weapons, controllers
and limbs to choose from and robots can be
trained to execute various manoeuvres. It's
fascinating and RoboForges's 3D arena battles
are enthralling.

German Version of RoboForge

Look
out for a German version of RoboForge hitting the shop
shelves in Europe soon. Liquid Edge Games, developers
of RoboForge, been busy making the code changes that will
allow a foreign language to be inserted into the game.
RoboForge's European publishers, Brighstar Entertainment,
will take the German version and get the RoboForge box
into Europe's biggest games market.
Liquid Edge
Games CTO, Hugh Calveley, said "it was always our intention
to have foreign language versions, but given the complexity
of the RoboForge program there were a few technical issues
that we had to overcome, but now we've done the
German version we're well positioned to deal with
other languages." Let's see if their bots match the
quality of their cars when the German designers hit the
RoboForge tournaments soon.

RoboForge is now "SoftWrapped" which means you
can trial the full version of RoboForge FREE for 14 uses
or 20 days (whichever comes first). On expiry you have
the option to upgrade to the full version with no further
downloads.
The RoboForge SoftWrap Version is 30Mb in size. We highly
recommend you use an FTP download tool such as Gozilla
or Real Download,
so that if the connection fails during the download, you
can restart/resume where you left off. Both have free
versions of their tools available.

Wahoo, next patch out the door! Thanks to the RoboForge
community for all your feedback and support. This patch
has addressed the following issues:
- World Item problems (reach, velocity etc) not being
correctly calculated
- Slow Passthrough
- Occasional 'blackout' in Battle Player
- Damage calculations issues
- Error Details not showing during account creation
Just a reminder that patches to the game are free to existing
players and are applied automatically when the player
logs into the online Tournament area.
